My Little Dune Buggy...

Draw a picture
Describe the Motion
Sketch the predicted Position vs. Time Graph (label it P)
Run your experiment (sketch the graph from the "U.L.I") make sure your ULI is not set as 0
  • What is Position?
  • What is a frame of reference?
Interpret the meaning of the slope and write an equation in-terms of the variables.
  • Describe the slope
  • What is the slope representing? Describe by substituting your description of slope?
  • What does the Intercept represent?

There are countless experiments you can do but about 9 that are meaningful.
2 of your experiments will be graded @ random.   DUE FRIDAY

not as easy as pie!

Extremely important: all lab materials must be returned to the box when finished there are 10 magnets please make sure that all 10 get returned.
Objective:  in this lab you use experimental techniques and measurements along with observational skills to determine the relationship between two quantities. Of the pendulum and the length.  In doing so, you should be able to determine the length of pendulum that would have a period of exactly one second.
*make observations about your mass yes I mean measurements!
1. Set up your experiment as shown below take a lab selfie of your set up.
2. For your pendulum back slightly and release.
3. Allow the motion to become consistent and then time 10 swings.
4. Repeat this procedure for 10 separate Lengths.
Note:The magnet is supplied to easily adjust the length of your screen without cutting.
The best idea would be to Premark your string  into equal increments of either five or 10 cm and then measure accordingly.
*what should be your small slang for based on our discussion of Precision?

1.  Create a graph of the data.  Following all the rules from good graphing and the excel tutorial
EC Create a normalized Graph of the data
2.  Answer the questions
  • Is it linear? How do you know?
  • What seems to be the relationship? Explain
  • Write an Equation for the overall relationship supported by your data?
The above is due Tuesday.
  • What is the value of the slope and intercept?  Interpret them both?
  • How does this lab relate to the last lab physically and mathematically?

Easy As Pie

  • Observe the graph below
  • List observations of the characteristics of a good grap
        • Print and Paste/tape in to your composition notebook
        • Use bullets or #'s identify on the graph
        • Construct you C Vs. D Graph  using the same characteristics
        • Due Monday 11/3/14
        Click on Link Below
Use this to create a graph with the same data from Easy as PIE
Place your data in the student share with your name and title

Grounds for Dismissal!!

Backyard Discovery Cedar View Swing Set
OK so here is the scoop.  I need to know how much mulch and 4x4's I am going to need for this week end.  What is my total cost going to be for each don't forget tax!
Complete this in your notebook with all work and calculations I will work on Google form for this... and post it here.  Complete it and your answers show the factor label process and are correct / believable you will receive a free HW or get a 0 dropped!!!

UNITS

Fundamental Units

  • Define Describe and differentiate between unit of measure
  • Determine which are fundamental
  • Come up with a standard to describe a certain amount of a quantity
    • Ex. Distance
      • fundamental-"Yes"
      • Description-the amount of space between to points in a linear plane
      • Standard-1 foot - the length of the foot of the king of England
        • note: this is a standard but it has some serious issues
Assignment 1:
  • Read and post to the blog
  • Come up with a standard for each of the 3 quantities discussed in class listed below
    • POST as a reply to each one
Assignment 2:
  • Create an organized chart (using a ruler) to put the name of the measurements the standards symbol and unit of measure.   Chart should take up entire page and be hamburger not hotdog in your notebook.   5 columns and 7 rows!
  • Use this link to complete your chart  Fundamental Units
  • Print & Read:Kilogram losing mass
  • Watch this Video Veratasium
  • Write down any questions/ Post to the Blog under assignment 2 below

QUEST COMING UP!!!

  • SUMMARIZE THE KEY IDEAS
  • ASK YOURSELF WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF EACH ACTIVITY
  • IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS COULD BE ASKED "POST THEM"
    • Can you answer those questions?
    • You are done studying when you understand.

Richies Potty Chart

  • Make observations
    • Embedded image permalink
Why don't you have a potty chart?
    • Classify or give a reason for why you made your observation
    • Write down any questions you have as a result of your observations
    • Purpose a hypothesis for each observation
      • Even better can you purpose one Hypothesis that explains them all (Occam's Razor)

What is Physics?

Day 8
Use your class example to organize and label groups to construct a statement about the words in a coherent sentence.  Not you may have a group or words that were not categorized and do not fit!!!

Day 6: Answer one of the following questions below

Day 6:

Answer one of the following for HW

Use the ideas learned in things that.

Create groups  that have similar characteristics

        Define the characteristics

Use this do define differentiate and answer the question

Ex.

Humans have a belly button...  Therefore anything with a BB must be human.

Dogs have bb so that can't be it.  But it may be one of the defining criteria

Try again? (Repeat this process until you get an answer you are confident with.

Post any ideas questions ect.  This should go in you notebook with the question you chose as your title.

What is a Banana?

Is a virus alive?

What is a duck bill platypus?

What make you human?

What is the difference between M&F?

ABCs of Physics

Day1

Objective:Determine and discuss the what makes information and ideas more easily understood.

What are the key ideas illustrated in the activity?

Things That?

Day 2
Objective: Describe an object in a way that a 2 year old physicist would be able to identify it or draw it.

Day 3
1.Post your description of one if your objects with the title "Thing" and your initials.

2.Choose a fellow students description by posting your initials with the reply button. If somone has already selected a description choose another.

3.Draw a picture of the object in your note book along with the description.  Use color or indicate color (do your best).  I will count this for a grade.

On Wednesday we will match the "Thing" with it's picture.

Day 4:Create an organizational strategy based on observations.

HW:Group objects based on characteristics (develop a by nominal taxonomy)

Day 5

Create a taxonomy chart.  Like a family tree each branch is based off of a singular characteristic.  Continue to break down your groups in a similar fashion until all object are essentially the same.  You may want to consider the order of the characteristics/organization.... If it is good it should work for any set of objects in the box not just your 10.0!!
